Because we have a number of websites that have names that sound like we're the manufacturer, we do get periodic customers who don't realize we're a retailer. Sometimes they're happy to buy through us, as the manufacturers don't sell direct anyway. Other times they looking specifically for the manufacturer and we'll waste our time and theirs trying to help them.
2 Scenarios to be on the lookout for:
1. Someone who bought an item a long time ago through a different source who is looking for the manufacturer to replace it for free. I.e. "I bought this item 12 years ago at the Home Depot and it broke. Can you tell me your warrantee policy?"
2. Other wholesalers who are looking to place an order with the manufacturer. We had this recently, someone with a wholesale account through Anne at Home who thought we were Anne at Home.
In either case, we need to inform them that we're a retailer and redirect them appropriately.
